This package is designed to provide an in-depth analysis of your child's language and communication abilities and his/her strengths and needs, in order to inform decisions for intervention and support, and to advise further actions required to address your child's needs (e.g. referral to another service).
The assessment may be conducted over more than 1 sessions if necessary and involves:
1. Information gathering from you and, if necessary and with your permission, from school/nursery.
2. Working with your child to conduct informal assessment tasks and observations. This is to obtain a picture of your child's functional language and communication ability, strengths and needs.
3. Conducting formal assessments with your child as necessary and appropriate. This involves using standardised tests to obtain a quantitative measure of specific aspects of your child's speech and language skills, and may be necessary for some school-aged children, or younger children with a fairly high level of functional language skills, in order to obtain a more in-depth profile of their speech-language and communication abilities.
4. In some cases, it may be necessary to conduct an extra school/nursery observation in order to provide a fuller picture of you child's speech-language and communication needs. An extra £200.00 will be charged. Should this be indicated, the SLT will discuss and agree with you before proceeding with arranging the school/nursery observation.
5. Feedback to school and family together via online meeting on the assessment findings and their implication to therapy and longer-term needs, and advice on strategies to help. We will also discuss next steps.
6. A report will be provided upon conclusion of the assessment as part of this package. The draft report will be released for parental verification only after full payment, including extra payment for home visit if applicable, has been received. Parental consent must be confirmed before reports are shared with school. Parents will receive a copy of the report as a matter of course.
Full payment for must be received no less than 1 week before the first session of this package takes place.
Please note that the Comprehensive Assessment report is not equivalent to a report for an EHC Plan, as it does not include recommendations for Outcome Sought (section E of EHC Plan) and Provisions (section F of EHC Plan) to the level of specificity as required for an EHC Plan. A Comprehensive Assessment report will include information regarding background and case history, a detailed profile of the child's communication and speech and language skills including reporting and analysis of the assessment findings and the implication for the child's communicative functioning, and recommendations on supportive strategies for use on a day to day basis and signposting to useful information and resources.
