Who am I?

Hello. My name is Sally Leung.

I am a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist with over 25 years of experience. (Scroll down for a summary of my experience and qualifications)

I provide a dedicated, expert-level Speech & Language Therapy service to children and young people with autism and social communication needs (ASD/SCD), including those with co-existing developmental conditions such as ADHD, learning difficulty, etc.

Communication is the key that enables us to connect, and to live a happy and fulfilling life as a part of the communities that we are in.

My Approach

I adopt a whole-person approach to therapy, and I endeavour to support children and young people to develop skills that are functional and meaningful to them, to promote independence, to enable them to function more effectively within their communities, and to help improve quality of life in the long term.

I am keen to work in close collaboration with families and all those who have a significant role in the child/young person's development and education.

My Experience, Qualifications & Relevant Training

Experience

I have been practising in the field of Speech & Language Therapy since 1994, and had worked for the NHS for 22 years. I worked at Agenda For Change Band 8a level, as the Lead SLT for ASD & ADHD for the Children's SLT Service, in my last employ within an NHS Trust.

I have been a Specialist SLT in the area of Autism/ASD & ADHD since 2004. I am now working as an independent Speech & Language Therapist, providing a dedicated, specialist service for children with Autism Spectrum/Social Communication Disorders.

I have worked in close collaboration with the specialist Occupational Therapist and colleagues in CAMHS and Education.

I have extensive experience in conducting diagnostic assessments for ASD as part of a multi-disciplinary specialist team. I am currently part of an ASD diagnostic team in an independent practice.

I have developed a range of new therapy approaches/packages for children with Autism/ASD and ADHD. I am the developer of the Pre-Interaction Skills Therapy** approach and Budding Communicator Course**.

I provide training to families and professionals. Professionals I provided training to include Speech & Language Therapists, and colleagues from Education, pupil counselling services, Paediatricians, Psychiatrists, nurses on hospital children's ward, Children Centre staff, Children’s Universal Service, and members of the Police.

Relevant Training

I am trained in, and regularly employ in my practice, a wide range of assessment and intervention approaches for autism, including Non-directive Therapy, Intensive Interaction, PECS, ADOS, Makaton, Attention Autism, Sensory Attachment, Elklan, EarlyBird, SCERTS.

I frequently attend study days, conferences and seminars on Autism. I also conduct regular studies to stay up-to-date with latest research and developments in the field of autism and neurodiversity.

I am a member of the London SIG for Autism and I consistently attend their study days (3 times a year).

I attend study days, conferences and seminars on ADHD. I also conduct regular studies to stay up-to-date with latest research and developments in the field of ADHD relevant to SLT.

I have attended Sensory Integration (SI) Training Modules 1, 2, and 3; I have worked in close collaboration with SI-qualified Occupational Therapists to provide integrated therapy intervention for children with Autism/ASD and ADHD for 13 years. I continue to actively employ my skills and knowledge in SI in my SLT practice.
